Fall Semester New Students Orientation - Students Attending in Fall 2020

We are so excited for you to join us on campus this fall. New Student Orientation (NSO) will be a fully online experience. Please select the week you wish to complete this online experience. Keep in mind: once a session is full, you will no longer be able to register for that date.

1. Virtual Orientation

Goals

Successfully complete your virtual orientation.

outcomes

You've completed step one. Your New Student Orientation hold will be removed.

actions

  • Check Umail for your invitation to the virtual orientation Canvas course.
  • Access the Canvas course with your UNID and password.
  • Take your time to navigate the content - how and when you choose to do so is up to you. There is no time limit but you can expect to complete the course in about 2 hours.

2. academic advising

Goals

Connect with your academic college for First Semester Course Planning.

Outcomes

Your academic advising hold is removed to allow you to register for classes.

 Actions

  • Check Umail for communications from your academic college.
  • Follow the steps outlined by your academic college. Keep in mind, these will be different for each college.
  • Prepare for your advising conversation by completing the advising and registration worksheet (available in Canvas).

3. course registration

Goals

Create your Fall 2020 schedule.

Outcomes

You’ve successfully completed course registration and are ready for Fall 2020. If you change your mind, you can come back and edit as needed.

Actions

  • Reference the Course Registration video in your virtual orientation as needed.
  • Use Schedule Builder to add courses to your CIS shopping cart.
  • Click “Finish Enrolling” to secure your class schedule.

Keep in Mind

  • The cost for First Year NSO is $30

  • Registration closes 3 days before NSO or until session is filled

  • Any necessary accessibility accommodations can be requested within the NSO registration form
  • DEFERRED STUDENTS: If you were previously accepted to the U and have deferred your admission for a mission, military service, or medical reasons, you are still required to complete NSO before starting classes. Students who cannot attend the session dates listed above can contact our office for more information
